New CMA CGM Central America West coast services to launch in January

Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala to be connected with new weekly service.

CMA CGM has announced it will launch a dedicated service to the west coast of Central America, which will be fully operated by the French shipping line and will include calls at five ports in the region. The new service is scheduled to start January 2, 2025.

The weekly service has been named Maya Service and "is in line with the market dynamics in the region and the difficulties that have been faced recently," said CMA CGM.

The rotation will take place starting from Lazaro Cardenas (Mexico) - Puerto Caldera (Costa Rica) - Corinto (Nicaragua) - Acajutla (El Salvador) - Puerto Quetzal (Guatemala) - Lazaro Cardenas (Mexico). A later version of the service will operate from Colombia.

The service will be served by two dedicated CMA CGM-operated ships, 1,577 teu CMA CGM Surabaya  and 2,339 teu Magdalena Schulte . The new loop will be linked to services to and from Asia as well as the West Coast of South America.

The first departure will be CMA CGM Surabaya on January 2, 2025.

The service will have two phases. Initially, Maya Service will operate via Lázaro Cárdenas until 10 April 2025, and from then onwards will operate from Buenaventura, Colombia.
